A “dry hydrant” will soon be available for fighting fires in eastern Batavia Township after board action at the Batavia Township board of trustees. Last week, they approved a joint-easement plan with Williamsburg Township to allow the installation of the fire hydrant, which will draw water from a pond instead of from a water line. Paul Berringer of the Clermont County Soil and Water Conservation District spoke on behalf of the plan, which would give firefighters a much-needed boost in that area, should a fire ever occur.

“I come before the board tonight to ask you to co-hold an easement with Williamsburg Township to access a dry hydrant to be installed on Elaine Miller’s property on Afton-Elklick Road,” said Berringer. “This if for fire protection. The hydrants are installed in rural areas without pressurized hydrants, and drain water from ponds in which they are installed. We’ve made some changes in the easement language to suit Elaine.”
