Union Township could be graced with another high-tech business in the coming years, but that result is yet to be ascertained. Last week, the Union Township board of trustees approved a tax abatement that, if supported by a state incentive package, could bring the Freeman Schwabe company from Erlanger, Ky., to the township.

“This is a resolution to agree to a tax abatement for Freeman Schwabe,” said Union Township administrator Doug Walker. “This company distributes, manufactures and installs die-cut machines. The company would like to install a 25,000-square-foot facility, expandable in the future to 50,000, at a cost of $1.5 million. These are all high-paying jobs.”

Greg DeFisher, CEO of Freeman Schwabe, is also a Clermont County resident and said that he is eager to move the business to the area. The tax abatement is a first step in that process, which will include an approval from the county commissioners and a meeting at the state level to discuss an economic incentive package. Should the deal be struck, the company could be giving the county a much-needed economic boost.
