The New Richmond School District has once again received an “effective” rating on its report card from the Ohio Department of Education.

“We had an idea of what our rating would be when we saw our test scores,” said Superintendent Thomas Durbin. “We were a little bit disappointed, but not too terribly surprised. We thought we had done better with our 11th grade scores in science and social studies, but we were very close to the state’s requirements in all areas.”

New Richmond met 25 out of the 30 state indicators, only falling short in the five areas of 5th grade mathematics, which did not change from last year, 8th grade social studies, 11th grade science and social studies, and the 85.7 percent graduation rate (the state requirement is 90 percent).

“We obviously have some work to do,” Durbin said. “We are going to be trying to figure out what happened in all of those areas. An effective rating is still pretty good, but unacceptable for me and the staff.”
