Batavia Boy Scout Nathan Braswell has collected and donated 2,000 pounds of food to the YWCA.

As part of his Eagle Scout project, Braswell, 15, along with about 30 helpful volunteers, collected the food in one day from five local neighborhoods. The large amount of food was then bagged up and donated to the YWCA July 30.

Braswell, who is a member of the Dan Beard Council Boy Scout Troop #977 (located in the Eastgate area), chose this Eagle Scout humanitarian project because he realized that a lot of people who live in the Clermont County area, for whatever reasons, need food.

“We are lucky,” he said while unloading the bags of food at the YWCA. “I look at hungry people locally in our county and the starving people around the world, like in Darfur, who have no food at all. It is so wrong and so sad. But we have food – sometimes more than enough.”
