A new restaurant called Country Cruz’en opened in Owensville July 1.

Plans for the brand new family owned and operated country-style restaurant, which will be reminiscent of the old drive-in/cruise-in restaurants of the 1950′s and the 1960′s, have been in the works for the last three years.

“We were inspired by the days when cruise-in restaurants were a fun and popular way to eat and socialize with friends on the weekends,” said owner Randy Clem. “We wanted to bring that style back to Clermont County and open up a restaurant that our whole family could be a part of.”

Country Cruz’en will be managed and operated by the Clem family who live in Edenton. Randy Clem, his wife Shawna, and their two sons Justin, 21, and Jared, 19 are all part of the new endeavor.

The restaurant's slogan, which is 'we are not fast food, and you can taste the difference,' is only one of the many reasons that makes Country Cruz'en so special, Randy said.

"This is not going to be a place where one can just zip in and zip out," Randy said. "I want to stress that this will not be fast food; all of the food will be fresh and prepared to order."

The reasonably-priced menu covers all types and groups of food, including, but not limited to, many different kinds of hamburgers and cheeseburgers, steaks, chicken, hot dogs, pork tenderloin, sandwiches, salads, and french fries.

The hamburgers are certified Angus beef, all the produce is whole, sliced, and prepared daily, the potatoes will be pressed, and nothing will be frozen, Randy said.

"Everything will be healthy, fresh, and of high quality; there will be no processed food (including cheese)," he said. "We are also going to have a soft-serve dairy side with all sorts of ice cream, sundaes and floats, etc. which we are very excited about."

Country Cruz'en, which will be a seasonal and somewhat sports-oriented restaurant, is hoping to capture a comfortable and laid-back atmosphere.

"Well, we are in the country, so we wanted to capture that kind of unmistakeable country feel and relaxed atmosphere that can only be found in the country," Shawna said. "We did not want a high-pressured, stressful environment for our staff and our customers."

Four friendly and personable car-hops will be available during business hours to serve and accommodate a total of 15 automobiles at one time. There will be an outside music sound system and an easily accessible drive-thru in the back.

"It has been quite an undertaking," Randy said. "We have really gone the extra mile on everything. It was very important for us to create an enjoyable, fun, and relaxing place for family and friends to eat and not be in such a rush - because that is what the country is all about."

Country Cruz'en, which is in the center of Owensville (on the corner of S.R. 50 and S.R. 276), will open to the public on July 1. The hours of operation will be10 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sundays.
