A new project conceived by Clermont County Veterans’ Services is aimed at recognizing every deceased veteran in the county. “Operation Grave Marker” is a push to let people know that free grave markers are available at veteran’s services for the graves of anyone who fought in an American war.

“The flag markers are available at our office, and they are for the decoration of veteran’s graves,” said Mark Coyle, senior service director. “They are symbolic of different war periods. There are emblems for WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Purple Heart recipients, as far back as the War of 1812 and the Revolutionary War. We have markers representing every era and service.”

The grave markers are metal markers that denote the war served in, along with the veteran’s military branch. On top of the metal markers is a place to insert a small U.S. flag, which is included with the marker. The entire thing is free of charge, said Coyle.
