Haley Shinkle to study and play at Lake Erie

Haley Shinkle, Clermont Northeastern High School athletic star, has signed a letter-of-intent to attend Lake Erie College, Painesville, Ohio. She will compete in the fast pitch softball program.

Haley lettered in volleyball, basketball, and fast pitch softball. In softball she earned Southern Buckeye Conference American Division all-star status as a third baseman and outfielder. The school has rewarded her with Golden Glove and Blue and Gold honors.

Off the athletic field she has been a member of the Leo Club, the National Honor Society, the prom committee, and Spanish Club, and has served as a teacher’s aide.

Middle childhood education will be Haley’s major field of study.

She chose Lake Erie College because "It's a small school with a nice atmosphere and I like the coach."

Her parents are happy with her choice of college.

"I'm real happy," said Haley's mom, Hope, a former CNE sports star. "It's a small school and it's growing. I'm pleased that the athletic program is improving."

"I think she's made a smart choice and she's happy so I'm happy," said Haley's dad, Robert. "I was impressed with the coach. He's nice and he's knowledgeable."

A couple of important contests are in the forefront of Haley's recollections of the most memorable moments of her athletic career.

"I hit the first home run on the new (CNE) softball field my sophomore year," she said. "My freshman year I was voted the most valuable player in a (softball) tournament at North Adams."

"My mom and dad have always been there for me," said Haley in regards to important people in her life. "Tom Wiesman (coach of her select traveling softball team) has been very helpful. My brother (Taylor) always came to my games."

"Haley was a hard-working athlete and has showed very steady improvement every year," said Jason Kreimer, CNE head girls basketball coach and one of several coaches of Haley in her superb prep athletic career.
