Drawing inspiration from the hit reality show “The Apprentice,” four senior student teams in Milford’s High School Marketing Management and Research Program presented advertising and promotional campaigns May 4 to local consumer products company Harbro, LLC.

The student teams, under the guidance of marketing teacher Ed Pregitzer, presented their ideas for a real playing card advertising campaign to Mark Hartwell, president of Harbro, who will soon be marketing and trying to sell a new deck of playing cards to Wal-Mart.

“We heard about the event last year and wanted to become involved,” said Harbro President Mark Hartwell. “The kids have a real product to market in our new playing cards. They are the demographic that we are going for, so who better to ask to come up with promotional campaigns and to market the product themselves?”

To prepare for the presentations, the students drew inspiration from “The Apprentice.” For the second year in a row Pregitzer assigned the student teams to work on promotional campaigns for an actual product, utilizing modern technology to learn practical marketing skills and then applying those skills to an actual product.
