Milford resident Ralph Vilardo was appointed to the vacant seat on the Milford City Council April 18.

Milford Mayor Kim McBeath appointed Vilardo, 41, to council after three secret ballots of the remaining five councilmembers failed to give any one of the three interested candidates a majority for the appointment.

The Milford City charter dictates that the city mayor is the one to make the appointment under those unique circumstances.

Vilardo, who is a native resident of Milford (he grew up on Main Street) and works as a paramedic/firefighter for Miami Township, applied for the vacant seat on council after the surprise April 3 resignation of long-time council member and former mayor Craig Kolb.
