Amelia’s Wenker is first-team All-Ohio Academic cager
Michelle Wenker has already established herself as a Clermont County distaff basketball standout, but now an additional honor has been earned by the Amelia High School senior. Michelle’s off-court studies, in addition to her on court basketball talents, led to her earning being chosen as a Division I first team all-Ohio Academic girls basketball all-star.
Bethel-Tate and Goshen diamondmen are in the forefront of Clermont’s baseball performances
Finally! Spring break is over and the weather is making an effort to warm up and dry out to permit Clermont County’s high school varsity baseball teams to continue their respective campaigns. The Tigers edged Williamsburg 4-3 behind Taylor’s four-hit, 10-strikeout pitching performance. John Pope was the unfortunate losing moundman. Matt McKee doubled twice to pace the Red and Gray’s offense in this Southern Buckeye Conference non-division showdown.
Williamsburg, CNE, Milford, New Richmond are major winners in county fastpitch competition
Spring break is over and the rain and cold is not nearly as prevalent allowing Clermont County high school varsity fast pitch softball teams to get it into gear once again. The Wildcats’ offense erupted to beat Bethel-Tate 8-1 in a Southern Buckeye Conference National Division contest. Heather Brown was the winning pitcher and Hanah Rinehart took the loss.
Milford’s Greater Miami Conference stars shone bright on winter nights
Milford was respectfully represented on the Greater Miami Conference (GMC) winter season all-star squads. This year marks the last that the Eagles will be a member of the GMC. Next year Milford will compete in the Fort Ancient Valley Conference Buckeye Division. Following are the Milford athletes on the respective sports all-star teams (some of the squads list the year in school).

Amelia’s Barons were well-represented on most of the winter sports all-star teams of the Fort Ancient Valley Conference Cardinal Division. Following are those members of the Blue and White on the respective squads. Some of the dream teams may include additional personal information.
Glen Este well-represented on Fort Ancient Valley Buckeye Division winter sports all-star squads
Glen Este was well-represented on the majority of the winter all-star teams of the Buckeye Division of the Fort Ancient Valley Conference. Some of the squads’ listings include additional personal statistics. Following are the Glen Esteans who earned berths on these respective stellar squads.
Williamsburg and Batavia boys win invitationals
Williamsburg’s boys easily won the A Classic Track and Field Division III championship. The event took place at Lockland High School. The Wildcats tallied 124 points, Reading 74, Cincinnati Christian 71, Seven Hills 47, Lockland 40, Hillcrest 38, Cincinnati Hills Christian 30, New Miami 20, Shroder 17, and Miami Valley Christian 4. Wildcat coach Chris Rolph pointed out his charges set 12 personal bests at the meet. Victories achieved by the Blue and White were Mike McAfee in the 100-meters dash (11.40, tying the school record of Donald Wright established in 1989), 200 dash (23.40), and 400 dash (53.4), Jerrad Turner in the pole vault (11-feet), Alex Jenkins in the 110 high hurdles (16.67), DuSean Shelton in the 800 run (2:08), and the 1,600 relay of Jenkins, Shelton, Cody Watson, and McAfee (3:45).
Search for boaters called off
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Watercraft has called off its search and recovery efforts for the two fishermen who disappeared on the William H. Harsha Lake in East Fork State Park earlier this month.
Milford has new member of council
Milford resident Ralph Vilardo was appointed to the vacant seat on the Milford City Council April 18. Milford Mayor Kim McBeath appointed Vilardo, 41, to council after three secret ballots of the remaining five councilmembers failed to give any one of the three interested candidates a majority for the appointment. The Milford City charter dictates that the city mayor is the one to make the appointment under those unique circumstances.
Open house at Grant’s was well-attended
More than 2,000 people attended the open house at Grant’s Farm and Nursery April 21-22. Grant’s has two locations. Grant’s Farm and Greenhouses are located at 5552 Bucktown Road, which is 13 miles east of Milford off State Route 50. Grant’s Garden Center is located at 2115 State Route 131, between Day Heights and Newtonsville.
