The Clermont County Master Gardener Association has announced that county residents Caroline Flower and Jan Doherty have been selected as the volunteers of the year.

Master Gardeners are a group of volunteer educators and garden enthusiasts who have completed course work and extensive volunteer hours, usually 50 hours, as mandated by the Cooperative Extension for the state, county, or province where they live.

Started in 1991, the Master Gardener program provides knowledge and develops leaders in the area of horticulture to educate people more about plants, their culture, their importance to the environment, and how horticultural knowledge improves the quality of life for everyone.

Caroline Flower, who lives in Amelia with her husband Stan, was the top volunteer for the association last year with a total of 240 volunteer hours.
