Evelyn Grace Minning, 95, died March 12, 2007 at the Helen Purcell Home in Zanesville, Ohio. She was born on Aug. 20, 1911, in Switzerland County near Vevay, Indiana, the daughter of the late Claude and Clara Furnish.
After graduating from Vevay High School in 1931, she worked in the dietary department of the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital until she saved enough money to begin nursing school at U.C.
Upon graduation in 1936 and after a brief period as an RN at Cincinnati General Hospital, she was hired at Christ Hospital, where she served as the Nursing Supervisor of Obstetrics from 1936-1954.
In addition to teaching nursing students and caring for patients, she helped with several revisions of the textbook Obstetrics Management and Nursing.
In 1954 she met and married Carl Minning, M.D. who was a general practitioner in Clermont County for 54 years. She served as his devoted wife and office RN until his retirement in 1985.
Evelyn was also a faithful member of the former First United Methodist Church of Batavia, and was a 75-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by husband, Carl; brothers, Claude, Ralph, and David; and sisters, Martha Cole and Lucille Furnish.
She is survived by son, Carl, Jr. (Joan); grandchildren, Abagail and Christopher; sisters, Dorothy Kumler, Ruth Cummings, and Lela Thomas.
Funeral services were held March 16 at the Moore Family Funeral Homes. Burial followed at the Batavia Union Cemetery.
