Milford kids are being recognized at the state level for their work in making a difference in Clermont County. Some eighth grade students who volunteered late last year to clean up trash as part of the Make A Difference Day observance will be honored in Columbus next week for their efforts in helping the community.

Rachelle Rapp, one of the middle school science teachers involved with the cleanup day activities, said that the program is part of a national push to get people involved.

“The basic idea is it’s a national volunteerism day,” said Rapp. “Clermont County picked up on that through Clermont 20/20. They do a Clean and Green in the spring, but also a Make a Difference Day litter cleanup around the county, and the city of Milford picked up on that and decided to organize groups specifically for Milford. We kind of hooked up with Milford to see if they needed volunteers. About seven years ago, we started getting groups together on the Saturday when they do their make a difference day in October. We work with the city to clean up an area, we’ve been working on River’s Edge along the East Fork of the Little Miami River for a couple of years. This past year, we had our biggest turnout with over 100 students volunteering.”
