Council on aging recognizes meals on wheels drivers

Sherie Arnold’s service to the 50 or so customers on her Meals on Wheels route comes straight from the heart. She delivers much more than a meal each day. She entertains her customers by dressing in festive costumes on holidays, and brings them small tokens of friendship from her vacations.

Megan Smith will study, play soccer at Northern Kentucky University

Megan Smith, a Batavia High School senior, is a two-sport Southern Buckeye Conference National Division (SBC-N) all-star. She has plans to continue both her educational and athletic careers at Northern Kentucky University. The daughter of Jeff and Angie Smith was an all-conference performer on the soccer field and the basketball court having earned four letters on the turf and two letters on the hardwood. In soccer she also earned the Bulldogs’ most valuable player award.

Howell will be playing tennis at the University of the Cumberlands

Aaron Howell has recently signed a letter-of-intent to continue his education and tennis careers at the University of the Cumberlands (formerly Cumberland College), in Williamsburg, Ky. The Batavia High School senior, the son of Dale and Betty Howell, will be playing his third varsity season on the Bulldog courts. He began his prep career at McNicholas High School where he also lettered in the sport.

Tyler Hawk will study and golf with the Methodists

Tyler Hawk, Batavia High School senior, will always be remembered as one of Clermont County’s premier high school golfers. He has earned a position on the Southern Buckeye Conference National Division all-star team all four years of high school and three times he has earned a berth on the all-city squads. He was also a letterman in basketball.

Amelia Junior High students make an African-American themed quilt

As part of a language arts class project, eighth-grade students at the Amelia Junior High School have just completed construction on a thought-provoking African-American themed quilt. The eight by eleven foot quilt has close to 70 individual panels that commemorate a significant African-American event or milestone in U.S. history.

Students’ work chosen for Youth Art Exhibition

Out of 12,000 statewide entries, seven local students have been selected into this year’s Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition. The art students receiving the honor this year are McNicholas High School seniors Erin Overmann and Patricia Brinck, Milford High School seniors Rachael Robinson and Erin Jackson, Milford High School juniors Paul Slupski and Krystal Reynolds, and Amelia High School senior Jessica Thomas.

Lamp starts fire at Batavia apartment

A lamp lit too near to clothing is blamed for a fire in an apartment complex located in Batavia. According to a press release from the Central Joint Fire and EMS, more than $85,000 in damage is estimated at the apartment complex, which is located at 700 University Lane.

Union Township Trustees approve request for library construction

The Union Township board of trustees has cleared the path for the Clermont County Public Library to advance work on a new central office location. The newest branch of the library will not only house the library’s new administrative offices, but also a new Union Township library branch, which would replace the current location.

Clermont Master Gardeners Volunteers of the Year selected

The Clermont County Master Gardener Association has announced that county residents Caroline Flower and Jan Doherty have been selected as the volunteers of the year. Master Gardeners are a group of volunteer educators and garden enthusiasts who have completed course work and extensive volunteer hours, usually 50 hours, as mandated by the Cooperative Extension for the state, county, or province where they live.
