It’s a dog’s life in writing, said Bev Funk, but then, every dog has its day. Funk, of Monroe Township, is hoping to share that through her children’s book “Wool E. Woola,” the story of a dog, or several dogs actually, that she’s known over the years.

“The book is about a puppy,” said Funk. “They have my books at all of the Borders in greater Cincinnati now. It’s about ‘Wool E. Woola,’ and he’s a big fluffy pup. He tumbles down the steps when he really wants up. The story is all about the pup.”

Wool E. Woola is the name of a book written and illustrated by Funk that combines some of the best characteristics of two dogs into one literary figure. The story outlines what Wool E. Woola likes to do every day, which includes taking a nap with his good friend, a mouse.

“This was actually a couple of different dogs,” said Funk. “My friend had a dog named ‘Wula,” and I liked the name, it kind of hit me. Wool E. Woola looks like my friend’s dog a long time ago, which was the dumbest dog you ever met. However, Wool E. Woola’s behavior, his loving helping nature, was my dog. He was known across the world because we went caving with him with people from all across the world. That dog loved caves. That dog’s name was ‘Hector.'”
