Good observation, quick thinking and teamwork helped catch a copper thief at work in Batavia Township Tuesday morning when a Clermont County Sheriff’s Deputy stumbled upon a strange situation.

According to Clermont County Sheriff Tim Rodenberg, a deputy noting a truck parked in a strange manner put together the clues to find a wanted man.

“This occurred on Jan. 16 at approximately 4 a.m.” said Sheriff Rodenberg. “A deputy was on patrol and observed a truck parked somewhat unusually in a suspicious location for that hour of the morning. It was on Greenbriar Road. He hadn’t seen it there before, but there it was.”

Stopping to check out the truck, Cpl. Chris Baarlaer noted that more was odd about the truck than just how it was parked. It was full of new copper wire. Running the plates, Cpl. Baarlaer discovered that the owner himself was a wanted man.
