A former Miami Township resident was buried Saturday after becoming the region’s latest casualty of war. Marine Lance Corporal William Spencer died almost two weeks ago while serving in Iraq. He was 20.

Arriving at Lunken Airport on Friday morning, Spencer’s body was transported by motorcade to Tufts Schildmeyer Funeral Home in Loveland. The procession included several cars and a multitude of motorcycles representing many of the law enforcement agencies in the area.

A funeral was held the following day at Milford High School where Spencer attended before moving from the region as a freshman.

Spencer was reportedly killed by small arms fire in Fallujah late the week before his posthumous return to his childhood home. While he had been living in Paris, Tennessee, his mother and step father continued to live in Miami Township.
