Most boys basketball teams hit holiday humdrum

Milford is just about the only Clermont County varsity boys basketball squad to be recording any victories of late.


Milford was taken into overtime before defeating visiting Lakota East to remain in the top echelon of the Greater Miami Conference (GMC) race. The Eagles were up 10-9 after the opening stanza and the tally was knotted at 17 at the half. The Thunderhawks eked out a 30-29 third quarter edge, but the Red and White came back to tie the score at 49 to enter OT. Milford scoring leaders: Brandon Baker 15, Andrew Burton 13, and Steven Williams 13.

Mason took the measure of the Red and White 51-35 in a battle of conference contenders of the Fort Ancient Valley Conference Buckeye Division and GMC, respectively. The host Comets were in command throughout 9-5, 23-11, and 32-16. Milford scoring leader: Zach Host with nine points.

Oak Hills ousted Milford 50-38 in a GMC bout on the winners’ hardwood. The Highlanders held sway all the way 11-8, 19-16, and 32-29. Milford scoring leader: Baker 14.

Clermont Northeastern

Clermont Northeastern was taken by Turpin 76-62 in a non-conference battle on the victors' court. The Spartans led the Blue and Gold at the stops 15-13, 31-28, and 54-46. Clermont Northeastern scoring leaders: Jay Terry 14, Tyler Sanders 13, and Chris Jordan 11.

New Richmond

New Richmond lost in Mount Orab to defending Southern Buckeye Conference American Division champion Western Brown 58-34. The Broncos topped their guests at each intermission 22-11, 28-20, and 40-25. New Richmond scoring leader: Nolan Darland 13.

Mariemont and New Richmond somehow stayed awake long enough for the visiting Warriors to complete the tilt and to snooze by the Lions 34-20 in a non-conference offensive nightmare. The hosts trailed at each rest 17-3, 23-7, and 23-17. New Richmond scoring leader: Wilson with nine points.

Glen Este

Glen Este fell at Anderson 64-50 in a Fort Ancient Valley Conference Buckeye Division contest. The Trojans trailed their hosts at each break 18-10, 32-26, and 44-41. Glen Este scoring leader: Matt Winegardner 17.

The Purple and White were shot down by the Rockets of McNicholas 44-37. Visiting GE was on top after the first two stops of this non-league game 15-12 and 26-24, but the hosts entered the last stanza with a 39-31 lead. Glen Este scoring leader: Cameron Schwalbach 10.

Milford Christian

Milford Christian was knocked off by New Miami 55-41. The visiting Bulldogs kept it close most of the way, but was behind at each intermission 15-13, 26-25, and 45-30. Milford Christian scoring leader: Griffin 17.
