Batavia and Goshen are emerging as early leaders in Southern Buckeye girls basketball division races
Cayla Stutz, Felicity senior point guard, scored the 1,000th point of her stellar four-year varsity career. She dropped in the grand point from the free-throw line with 55-seconds remaining in the third quarter of the Dec. 11 Cardinals’ home game versus Ripley’s Blue Jays. Goshen and Batavia have emerged as two of the toughest teams to compete against in their respective divisions of the Southern Buckeye Conference. Glen Este’s schedule has not been in its favor. The Trojans have opened against some of the finest teams in their conference and in the entire state.
House bill would benefit Clermont County projects
It was announced last week that $649,000 of the state’s capital budget is being considered for three projects in Clermont County. The bill and the projects are sponsored and supported by State Senator Tom Niehaus, State Representative Joe Uecker, and State Representative Danny Bubp.
Ruben Willis Ballpark may go up for sale
The New Richmond Village Council has notified the community that the eight-acre Ruben Willis Ballpark may someday be sold for commercial development. The ballpark has been utilized by youth-oriented sports teams for more than 20 years.
Carcasses found in creek are coyotes
Animal control officers have determined upon further investigation that the two skinned animal carcasses found lying in a creek-bed off Pond Run Road in Pierce Township Nov. 28 were wild coyotes.
Liz Carroll found competent to stand trial
Liz Carroll, 30, has been found competent to stand trial in the death of three-year old foster son Marcus Fiesel. A visibly shaken but silent Carroll appeared before Clermont County Court of Common Pleas Judge Robert Ringland Dec. 14.
Drug unit money drying up
Only a week after announcing the biggest drug bust in Clermont County history, the Clermont County Sheriff’s Department is warning that drug enforcement within the county may cease due to a lack of funding.
New Richmond scouts hold food drive
The New Richmond Cub Scout Pack #155 is holding a holiday food and clothing drive to help needy families in the community. “The food drive is all about community service,” said Pack #155 committee chairperson Sidnie Reed. “The scouts have been collecting food, toys, and clothes for a couple of weeks now for people and families in the community who are less fortunate.” The food and other collected items were brought in to the New Richmond Elementary School’s cafeteria at the pack’s regular monthly meeting Dec.18. One New Richmond family was burned out of their home recently and escaped with only the clothes that they were wearing.
Remember food safety after your holiday meal
It may be one of the most treasured traditions of the holidays. After the big family meal is finished, holiday celebrants can be seen making little trips back to the dinner table for hours to get a little nibble of this or that, but all too often, unwanted guests on the food have been all too happy to make their presence known in uncomfortable ways.
Batavia Trustees wind up business
The Batavia Township Board of Trustees cleared up a few end-of-the-year items at the Dec. 19 meeting, including discussing the $3.5 million budget for 2007 and the formal organization of the board.
It is important to remember safety on this holiday
As Christmas approaches and presents continue to pile up under the Christmas trees located in homes around the world, fire officials are warning that those decorative trees could become deadly, if proper precautions aren’t taken.
