Amelia, CNE, GE, Milford boys win season openers

Amelia downed Western Brown, the defending Southern Buckeye Conference American Division champion, 66-61. Trailing 15-7 after the first quarter, the host Barons rallied to lead the rest of the way 26-19 and 42-40.

Amelia scoring leaders: Bryce Couch 20, Courtney Rodgers 18, and David Carr 13.

For his superb performance that included four three-point field goals, Couch was selected as the Fort Ancient Valley Conference Cardinal (FAVC-C) Division Player of the Week.

Winton Woods whipped the Barons 67-49 in FAVC-C action. The Warriors were ahead of their guests throughout 15-9, 31-25, and 49-40. Amelia scoring leader: Rodgers 19.

Glen Este bombed Batavia 57-32 as the host Trojans led all the way 18-5, 31-15, and 47-24. GE scoring leaders: Steven Wilson 12 and Matt Winegardner 10.

Clermont Northeastern ripped Ripley 49-46 in Owensville. The Blue and Gold overcame 12-11 and 28-22 disadvantages after the first two intermissions and led 39-37 going into the final eight minutes of the battle. CNE scoring leaders: Zach Slusher 18 and Chris Jordan 10.

Milford mastered Harrison 54-45 on the winners' hardwood. The Eagles flew off to a 14-11 first period advantage, trailed at halftime 26-25, and regained the lead after three stanzas 38-30. Milford scoring leaders: Andrew Burton 20 and Brandon Baker 13.

Goshen was whipped at Wilmington 65-49. The Red and Gray were on top 16-14 after the first period of play, but trailed the rest of the way 39-29 and 46-40. Goshen scoring leaders: Josh Greer 23, and Jeff Freiberger 11.

Bethel-Tate lost at Cincinnati Country Day 66-40. The Red and Gray was in arrears all the way 16-5, 34-12, and 49-25.

Felicity lost at Mariemont as the host Warriors steadily pulled away after an 11-all deadlock after the first eight minutes of action.

The hosts were in control 27-22 and 43-34 at the other breaks. Felicity scoring leaders: Jordan Grooms 28 and Tyler Utter 13.
