Jerome Lee Seibert, 68, of Stonelick Township, died Oct. 21, 2006. He was a refrigeration mechanic. He was preceded in death by wife, Juanita Marie Dickhaus.

Hazel L. (nee Lovell) Crowe, 81, of Batavia, died Oct. 24, 2006. She was born on July 13, 1925, in Liberty, S.C. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Lillie Bryant Lovell; husband, Cecil “Chick” Crowe; and brother, Roy.

Robert McLaughlin, the associate dean for administrative services at the University of Cincinnati Clermont College, has been named the 2005 Edward J. Parish Pacesetter by the Clermont County Chamber of Commerce.

Injuries were sustained last week when a two-car accident occurred near New Richmond Oct. 25. Mason was later found and was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and was subsequently incarcerated in the Clermont County jail.

As construction continues on a new office complex in Union Township, finishing preparations are being made by local officials to create an earnings tax that will affect any new businesses or industries that move to the new complex.

The Glen Este High School Thespian Troupe is holding its annual “Trick or Treat So Kids Can Eat” food drive. “We have been involved in this canned food drive program for a couple of years now,” said Thespian Troupe Secretary Tara Woodall. “Basically, we are going around to local neighborhoods, knocking on doors, and asking residents to donate canned goods to the local food pantries.”

While ticker tape was in short supply, red ribbons were prevalent at a parade earlier this week at the Batavia Elementary School. To celebrate Red Ribbon Week, students at Batavia Middle School prepared a parade that was held for the elementary students to get the point across: say no to drugs. Typically, students participate in some classroom exercises involving drug facts, or maybe go to an assembly or hear from a guest speaker. This year, however, the idea came up that maybe something completely different was in order.

A partnership between the Clermont County Mental Health and Recovery Board and the Clermont County Court of Common Pleas is hoped to create a much nicer environment for recovering drug and alcohol offenders.

For the second consecutive year, West Clermont Board and School District Treasurer Alana Cropper has received the “Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.” The award was presented to Cropper at the board’s Oct. 23 regular meeting.

She says that she’s done her time, and now she’s getting parole. However, after 30 years, it may not be easy for her, or for the law officers that she got to know over the years. Woodruff, 53, retired from the Batavia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol Tuesday morning after 30 years behind the desk as a dispatcher.
