A long and glorious season has come to an end for the Batavia varsity girls soccer team.

The Bulldogs compiled a record of 17-3 overall and their 12-1 standard earned them the Southern Buckeye Conference National Division championship.

The girls were also Division II sectional champions and district runner-up (these were firsts in the history of the Batavia varsity girls soccer program).

“This was a wonderful season. The girls played well together as a team. We had good passing combinations all season,” said head coach Jamie Corns.

Sophomore striker Sarah Smith was the leading scorer with 21 goals to her credit. Senior center midfielder Megan Smith netted 19 goals, sophomore center midfielder Kristen Robbe tallied 11, seniors Sara Stewart and Kelly Fink scored seven apiece, senior Stephanie Owens and juniors Kirby Bailey and Ashton Embry each had six goals to their credit, and junior Brette Shepard five.

Robbe’s 25 assists not only led her team, but also Greater Cincinnati. Sarah Smith had nine assists, Megan Smith seven, and Kelly Fink six.

The defensive standouts were senior sweeper Katie Fink, junior stopper Jamie Bare, senior wing fullback Erica Hauck, junior wing fullback Kristen Kerber, and sophomore goalkeeper Emily Webb who recorded eight shutouts to go along with her 106 saves. The Green and White outscored their opponents 94 to 19.

“We’re graduating eight seniors and four or five of them have been starters since their freshman year. This was a good group of seniors,” said Corns.

“We will have 11 underclassmen coming back so I expect the future and the tradition to continue to be good.”
