Injuries were sustained last week when a two-car accident occurred near New Richmond Oct. 25.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Dennis McCabe, 51, of Moscow, was driving a 1995 Geo Tracker west, where he was being followed by David Mason, 22, of Batavia, in a 1985 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. According to the Patrol, Mason lost control of his car and entered the left lane before striking McCabe’s vehicle in the left side.

Mary Smith, 53, of New Richmond, fell out of the passenger door of Mason’s vehicle and landed on the roadway. According to the report, the passenger door was held closed by duct tape. Mason left the scene of the accident.

Smith was transported to University Hospital by AirCare with serious injuries. Neither Mason nor McCabe sustained injuries. McCabe was wearing a safety belt, but neither Mason or Smith were, said the report. Mason was later found and was determined to be under the influence of alcohol. He was also driving under a suspended license, and was subsequently incarcerated in the Clermont County jail.

The case remains under investigation.
