Two Batavia residences have received property home improvement awards from the Village Association of Batavia.

Receiving the recognition are the Gardner’s home, located at 191 S. Second Street, and the Crawford’s home, located at 155 S. Second Street.

“The Batavia Property Improvement awards came out of our design committee,” said VAB president Cathy McCoy-Leone. “As part of the village revitalization efforts already underway, we wanted to recognize people that have put effort into improving their properties.”

The awards are bestowed on those property owners who improve the exterior of the home or the surrounding landscape.

“It really is an all over visual improvement award,” said VAB board member and real estate broker Barb Carney. “It is given to homeowners who make any noticeable effort to upgrade their properties.”

According to Carney, both homes were selected for the considerable improvements made and the visual aspect of those improvements.

The Gardners and the Crawfords will display a property improvement award sign in their yards for thirty days.

“In addition to the sign, they will receive other things as well,” said Carney. “At the VAB’s Oct. 15 meeting, they will receive a plaque, a recognition certificate, and a framed photo of the home. Most importantly, they receive the bragging rights.”

Also on display at the meeting will be the conceptual streetscape designs of the Batavia Main Street revitalization project.
