There was something for everyone at this year’s Taste of Clermont.

Organizers said that the Taste, which took place Sept. 8-10, was an enormous success.

The event, which is sponsored and organized by the Village Association of Batavia, is an annual event conceived and designed as a family-oriented event.

It was estimated that more than 20,000 people came out to enjoy the food, the entertainment, the music, and the attractions.

“This year’s Taste was a record-breaking event in both attendance and sales,” said Batavia Village of Association representative Karen Adams. “All the vendors were very pleased with their gross sales and most I spoke with have pledged to return next year.”

Food vendors participating in the 2006 Taste were Sizzling Wok, D.R. Concessions, Ice Cream, Etc., Miguel’s, Clerco Cafe, Gramma’s Pizza, the Clermont Inn, and the BBQ Cabin.

Miguel’s was awarded the best appetizer for its pepperjack stuffed pretzel (for the second year in a row) and the best dessert for its raspberry cheesecake chimi. The BBQ Cabin was awarded the best sandwich for its smoked brisket sandwich and The Sizzling Wok won best entree for its sesame teriyaki chicken.

“We would like to congratulate all of the winners and thank everyone who participated this year,” said Adams.

The entertainment line-up was very popular; there was a wide variety of live music that was presented on two stages throughout all three days of the event.

The acts included Leroy Ellington, the Goshorns, The Midnight Band, the Dallas Moore Band, Baccanal, and Jeffrey Steele (who has written songs for Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, and others).

“I plan on coming here all three days,” said Batavia resident John Michaels. “I saw Jeffrey Steele last year and I am so pleased that they brought him back. He is an amazing talent. He sings all the great country songs that I love.”

Recording artist and music legend Carole King made a special appearance on Sept. 9.

“I couldn’t believe it,” said Adams. “What a treat for everyone to meet Carole King. She was here to show support for our efforts. She signed my tee-shirt.”

In addition to the live music and the great food, the Taste included artwork from local artists on display, farm animals (the alpacas were a big hit for the kids), a beer garden, and a family amusement section called the KidZone.

The KidZone had a petting zoo, pony rides, face painting, and amusement park rides for the kids to enjoy.

In the Family Zone, there were informational booths set up by the Clermont County Public Library, Child Focus, Inc., C.C. General Health Center, the C.C. Sheriff’s Office, Cincinnati Zoo, and the C.C. Central Joint Fire Districts.

Karen Adams said that were no problems whatsoever; the weather was great and the event was a complete success for all those involved.

“The volunteer staff worked very hard this year to provide something for everyone in attendance and we feel that the community was very pleased with the results. We certainly were.”
