Much-improved Glen Este heads county girl soccer

Glen Este’s girls are already showing vast improvement over last year’s squad’s performance. The Trojans are 3-2 and a year ago did not win their first game until the sixth game of the season.

“We’re about where I thought we should be. We’re better and stronger than last year,” said GE head coach Alan Kirk. “We’re way ahead in scoring.”

The Purple and White has scored 17 goals and given up eight. Senior striker Sarah Niebuhr and freshman striker Tori Velten share the scoring leadership with five goals each. Niebuhr is the assist leader with seven.

Defensively, the GE stalwarts have been junior sweeper Jen Keller, sophomore midfielders Dana Hutchinson and Sam Lovell, and sophomore goalkeeper Samantha Rupert.

“These girls are hard working and very dedicated,” said Kirk. “I think we’ve got the potential to do well, but the young ones will have to keep growing.” The squad has six seniors, seven juniors, four sophomores and two freshmen.

The Trojan taskmaster expects Loveland, Mason, and Anderson to be his charges’ toughest foes in the Fort Ancient Valley Conference Buckeye Division.

Kirk concluded, “I’m excited about this team; watching them grow.”

The remainder of the team includes seniors Erin Gorth, Michelle Runyan, Maddie Kirker, Kolly Gerding, and Kassidy Lambert, juniors Katie Smith, Heather Bouts, Caroline Kirker, Jordan Gristock, and Brittaney Rupert, sophomore Samantha Miller, and freshman Sydney Schwalbach.
