Andre Higgins, New Richmond High School sports standout, signed a collegiate letter-of-intent to continue his education and football career at the University of Charleston (W.Va.).

Higgins most recently competed (June 3) in the state track and field championships at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at Ohio State University in Columbus where he finished seventh in the Division II high jump event with a leap of 6-feet, 4-inches.

The 2006 graduate of NRHS played football four years and earned two varsity letters, played basketball four years earning two letters and lettered all three years he competed in track and field. He was a Southern Buckeye Conference American Division all-star in all three.

Special awards he earned during his prep career were most valuable player and defensive back of the year (football), most valuable player and rookie of the year (basketball), and runner of the year and sprinter of the year (track).

At Charleston, the son of Jeanise Higgins will be majoring in education with the ultimate goal to be an educator at the high school level.

From a career of many fine performances, Higgins singled out a couple of his favorite athletic events.
