Joe Smith was recently recognized for his baseball skills.

The Amelia High School graduate was chosen in the third round, the 94th selection overall, by the New York Mets in the 2006 First Year Player Draft.

Smith, a 6-foot, 2-inch, 205-pound junior had been a right hand relief pitcher for the Wright State Raiders.

His performance through the 2006 season earned him the Horizon League Pitcher of the Year honors as well as the NCAA
