The Batavia Township trustees discussed the future of economic development with the probable loss of the Batavia Transmission Plant. While the future of the facility, which is scheduled to close in two years, is in question, the trustees discussed the efforts on several fronts to find a replacement for the revenue created by the facility. Also, the trustees discussed what will likely be the early ending to a hefty tax abatement on the facility.
Rex Parsons, Batavia Township Administrator, said that the trustees granted the transmission plant an abatement in 2000 good for a 75 percent reduction in real and property taxes.
