Ford announces transmission plant closing

The future has grown more uncertain for workers at Batavia Transmission, as well as for residents of Clermont County, with the announcement Monday morning at 10:30 a.m. that Ford intends to close the plant and cease all operations from it. The closure, which would take place sometime in 2008, will essentially eliminate the 1,745 jobs currently in place at the plant.

Angie Kozleski, a spokesperson for Ford, delivered the announcement locally at a media conference held on Front Wheel Drive at the front entrance of the plant. The media was not allowed onto the plant property.

Angie Kozleski, a Ford respresentative, read a prepared statement to the press in front of the Batavia Transmission facility two hours after the announcement was made that the plant would be closed.
