West Clermont boys cage rivalry taking a hiatus
Glen Este won the first 15 varsity boys basketball games versus arch-rival Amelia and has never been behind in the series, but after the 68th game of the series, played on Tuesday Jan. 10, a 60-53 victory by the Barons over the Trojans at GE, the series is now tied at 34 games apiece. Amelia has won 30 of the last 35 games between the two high schools of the West Clermont School District.
The rubber game will be played Friday Feb. 10 at Amelia. There will not be another game played between the Blue and White and Purple and White for one year, the first break of a year since the cross-district showdown began 43 years ago.
Dr. Gary Brooks, superintendent of West Clermont, played varsity basketball at Amelia from where he graduated in 1972 and he knows the importance of the Amelia-Glen Este series to both schools and why a temporary halt is needed.
