A dedication ceremony was held at Washington Township Park Saturday, Oct. 8 to rename state Route 756 in honor of the 216th Engineering Battalion.
The men and women of the 216th, many of whom are stationed at the armory in Washington Township, returned home in January after serving for a year in Iraq.
Washington Township Trustee Tom Dix says that the idea to rename Route 756 started with a desire to find some way to make a fitting tribute to the the members of the 216th.
State representatives Danny Bubp and Joe Uecker recognize members of the 216th. From left are Bubp and Uecker, company commander Cpt. Bob Vagnier, Sgt. Bob Fee, battalion commander Col. Scott Evans, and Brigadier General Matthew Kambic.
