The Amelia Village Police are putting out an emergency call to village residents for backup on the November ballot in the form of an operating levy that is hoped to allow the department to not only continue operating, but bring the force up to the state of readiness warranted by the growing population.
The proposed levy, a 3 mill issue, is expected to raise approximately $150,000 a year for the department and allow them to make some adjustments to their patrol schedule.
Amelia Police Chief Jeffrey Sucher said that like many police departments, his is operating on an antiquated funding measure.
