Shifting technology has forced 3M Precision Optics, a television lens manufacturer in Union Township, to eliminate 150 hourly jobs next month.

The decision comes after a rapid increase in projection television technology, which has moved from cathode ray-tube based systems (CRT), produced at the Union Township 3M facility, to liquid crystal display (LCD) and digital light processing (DLP), such as plasma screen and high definition-compatible televisions.
